Why Did The Olsen Twins Quit Their Career When They Were Super Famous: And What Are They Up To Now?
Ashley and Mary-Kate Olsen rose to fame in Hollywood during their childhood, but their career trajectories eventually diverged. Over the years, the sisters faced personal challenges including health issues and divorces, leading them to pivot away from the public eye.
Born and raised in Sherman Oaks, Los Angeles, California, the twins have an older brother, Trent, and a younger sister, Elizabeth Olsen. They also have younger half-siblings, Jake and Taylor, from their father’s subsequent marriage after his divorce from Jarnette in 1996.
Mary-Kate and her sister transitioned from acting to roles as producers, fashion designers, businesswomen, and authors. They are best remembered for their joint role as “Michelle Tanner” in the TV series “Full House” that began in 1987.
Choosing to focus on their passion for fashion, the twins achieved significant success in their chosen fields despite encountering personal hardships.
In June 2004, Mary-Kate’s publicist, Michael Pagnotta, disclosed that she had entered a treatment facility seeking help for a health-related issue, later revealed to be an eating disorder. Her visible weight loss prior to seeking treatment had prompted speculation, although she had not publicly acknowledged the disorder until then. In the same year, Mary-Kate faced scrutiny after Oprah Winfrey inquired about the rumors surrounding her health.
Reflecting on the public’s perception of their bodies, Mary-Kate’s sister acknowledged the media’s tendency to scrutinize their appearance. By August 2010, Mary-Kate had shared insights into seeking help for her personal struggles.
In a 2010 interview, Mary-Kate discussed their childhood in the spotlight, describing it as akin to being “little monkey performers.” She admitted feeling disconnected when looking back at old photos of herself.
Ashley recalled her focus on scripts and her determination to give her best effort in everything she pursued. She acknowledged the compromises inherent in the entertainment industry, especially after her role in the 2008 film “The Wackness,” where she struggled with not having creative control over the final product.
In 2016, Ashley made headlines for purchasing a two-bedroom condo in Manhattan’s Greenwich Village neighborhood. The spacious unit occupies a full floor in a historic 19th-century building converted into condominiums by Edward J. Minskoff Equities, covering nearly 3,000 square feet.
Ashley’s personal life garnered attention when she began dating Louis Eisner in October 2017. They eventually tied the knot in a private ceremony on December 28, 2022, surrounded by close friends and family at a residence in Bel-Air.
Louis Eisner is known for his artistic work featured in California pop-up museums and on his Instagram account. He grew up with his brother, Charlie, in Bel-Air. In August 2023, Ashley welcomed her first child, a son named Otto, marking a new chapter in her personal life.
