Michael Caine’s Life With His Wife Of 50 Years: Why Did The Actor And His Spouse Plan To Move?
Michael Caine, an esteemed figure in the British film industry, has announced his retirement. Celebrated for his roles in classics like “The Italian Job” (1969) and the “Batman” trilogy, Caine has concluded his illustrious career with “The Great Escaper,” alongside actors John Landing and Will Fletcher. In a BBC Radio interview, the 90-year-old actor confirmed his retirement, stating, “I keep saying I’m going to retire. Well, I am now.”
Over the decades, Michael and his wife Shakira Caine, aged 76, have owned and sold various properties. Among these was their Beverly Hills mansion on Davies Drive, sold in the mid-1990s, which they began constructing in 1984. This home featured a study with high ceilings, a vintage television, and a bar area, as well as an expansive outdoor space with lush gardens and a pool area where Michael was photographed in December 1992.
Additionally, Caine offloaded his Miami Beach apartment on South Point Drive in 2017 for around $7.45 million, having initially listed it for $8.7 million or an option to rent for $29,000 per month.
This 22-story building housed 67 residences, including Caine’s four-bedroom apartment, which boasted over 4,000 square feet of living space, private elevator access, a media room, and extensive outdoor areas with scenic water views. The actor had purchased this apartment for $4.07 million back in 2008.
In Surrey, England, Michael and Shakira once owned Keston Lodge, a family country home valued at approximately $5 million in 2021. This estate included a leisure complex with an indoor pool, hot tub, gym, and modern cinema.
The main bedroom featured dual en-suites, and the property spanned over 12,000 square feet with seven bedrooms, eight acres of gardens, a paddock, and two cottages, each with two bedrooms. Acquired in 1999 for $1.2 million, the Caines resided here for two decades before listing it for $4.5 million in January 2019 and finalizing the sale in 2022.
Michael also owned a merged property in London’s Albion Close, Hyde Park, during the 1960s. This four-bedroom residence, originally two mews houses, included oak floors, a designer kitchen, bespoke closets, and en-suite bathrooms, and was listed for $6 million.
Another of Caine’s former residences, a 17th-century country house in Oxfordshire known as Rectory Farm House, was listed for $8.4 million in 2020. This Grade II listed estate featured extensive river frontage, multiple reception rooms, a study, library, cinema room, and a kitchen/breakfast room, along with an indoor pool, spa, sauna, tennis court, and a guest cottage.
In a 2021 interview, Michael shared plans to downsize to be closer to his family, stating a move to Wimbledon was imminent as his grandchildren had grown. Currently, Caine resides with Shakira in a Chelsea Harbour flat in West London, appreciating the security despite the frequent helicopters.
This second marriage to Shakira, whom he met in the ’60s and married in 1973, marks 50 years of togetherness, celebrated with low-key walks and formal outings in London
