“She Was Before Catherine Zeta-Jones”: What Did Michael Douglas’s First Wife Look Like?
In 1977, Douglas tied the knot with Deandra Luker, a diplomat’s daughter from Austria, when he was 32 and she was just 19. The ceremony took place in Los Angeles, officiated by Judge Joan Dempsey in the Douglas family’s opulent backyard.
The bride chose a charming midi dress featuring a pleated skirt and sheer long sleeves for the occasion. Her veil was modest and her hair was styled elegantly up, according to TSN. Michael’s father, the esteemed actor Kirk Douglas, escorted Deandra to the altar. The union produced a son, Cameron, but ultimately, it didn’t last, leading to the couple’s separation.
They parted ways in 1995, but it took until 2000 for the divorce to be officially completed. Luker’s settlement included $45 million, rights to some of the couple’s properties, and spousal support. “I’m aware this might stir up some controversy, but I have to admit, I still hold a lot of affection for my first wife. However, we should’ve parted ways much sooner, perhaps eight to ten years earlier. I realized too late that marriage counselling was just prolonging the inevitable, as the counsellor’s role inadvertently became about sustaining the marriage for his own relevance. Deandra would likely agree with this sentiment. That’s my biggest regret,” Douglas shared with The Mirror.
For a while, they both spent time in their Mallorca residence, splitting the year between them until Douglas indicated in a recent People interview that he now fully owns the property after likely reaching an agreement with Luker. The couple faced challenges with their son Cameron in 2009 when he was convicted of drug trafficking and sentenced to five years in prison.
Both parents advocated for him, requesting a more lenient sentence from the court, which led to a reduced sentence after Cameron cooperated with authorities. Deandra Luker has since found happiness and wealth with her new family, including twin sons Hawk Paxton and Hudson Hunter from her relationship with Zac Bacon, and an adopted daughter, Imara.
