Restoration Of Old Armchairs: Armchairs That Were Thrown Into The Trash Have Become Modern Pieces Of Furniture!

Recently, while on my way home, I stumbled upon two Soviet-era armchairs. Initially destined for disposal, I saw potential in them and decided to rescue them. Little did I know, this impromptu decision would lead me to fulfill a long-standing dream – restoring vintage armchairs. These particular pieces had a history; once part of a country house, they were discarded by my mother-in-law despite my plea to preserve them. Snatching them up in early December, I embarked on the restoration journey, completing the project by March 8th. Although the process was not without its challenges, including a lack of experience and readily available materials, the end result speaks for itself. Rather than delve into extensive detail, I invite you to view the transformation through the accompanying images.

This is how they came to the garage

Began to dismantle

Remnants of vapour from the cushion

Sanding machine in action

I should have sanded somewhere outdoors. The whole garage in the dust and the stench of varnish goes.

When I got tired of sanding, I dismantled the second chair.

The glue was horrible. I threw away three pairs of gloves. It sticks to everything.

Two coats of rosewood lacquer

The beginning of colouring.

I reinforced it with additional slings.

I glued paralon. I made it thicker on the seat.

I covered everything with fabric.

I ordered the fabric online. I wanted it to be rich. I also added piping.

If the dimensions of the covers were originally made correctly, they practically fit on the seat.

I covered the back and bottom with leatherette. Blago was leftover.

This is how the first chair looked after two months in a dirty garage.

And so they came to our house on the 8th of March.

Bye, everybody.
