Colin Farrell became a father for the first time on September 12, 2003, when Canadian model Kim Bordenave gave birth to their son. At the time of James’s birth, Farrell was unable to attend the delivery because he was filming *Alexander*. At six, he spoke his first word, and by 19, he had learned to feed himself and even manage his seizures. “When he first started feeding himself, by the end, his face looked like a Jackson Pollock painting. But he’s managing, he feeds himself beautifully. I’m proud of him every day because I think he’s simply magical,” Colin shared. Nevertheless, James still requires assistance with many daily tasks, which is why, shortly before his 18th birthday, Colin and Kim filed for joint conservatorship.

Today, the former couple continues to care for their son together. In 2024, Colin established a foundation to support parents of children with genetic disorders. The foundation’s mission is to assist parents of adult children with special needs, who often find themselves facing these challenges alone.
