When Kian was four years old, a tragic accident led to the loss of her legs. With her family’s limited resources, getting prosthetics seemed impossible. But today, at 21, Kian defies the odds.
Despite the challenges, she’s educated, has a vibrant social life, and even won a gold medal at the recent Paralympic Games. The accident occurred in Yunnan Province when a truck hit Kian near her home.
Doctors amputated both her legs, leaving her family devastated. Unable to afford prosthetics, Kian’s grandfather ingeniously fashioned a makeshift solution using a basketball. Her story gained national attention, inspiring many disabled individuals across China.
Donations poured in, enabling Kian to receive prosthetics and attend school. Although finances remained tight, Kian refused to give up. She joined a swimming group for people with disabilities and faced numerous challenges but persevered.
Eventually, she became a Paralympic medalist, winning gold and silver medals. In 2011, tragedy struck when Kian’s beloved grandfather passed away.
Despite the setback, Kian continued competing, showcasing her resilience.
Her coach emphasizes that Kian’s story challenges stereotypes about disability in China, proving that disabled individuals possess incredible strength and determination.
